What happens to your email.
What I keep
Your email address, the time you asked for the toolkit, where on the site you asked, whether you opened the link (and how many times), and your answers to the two optional boxes, each with its own timestamp. Nothing else. No name, no tracking cookies.
Why
To send you the link to the toolkit, and to see, in simple numbers, who takes part in it. Who opens it, from where on the site, and how many go on to ask for more. That tells me whether the work is useful.
For how long
If you tick neither box, your address is deleted three months after your last request. After that I keep only totals per month (for example, “40 requests in October, 31 opened”), with no address attached. The toolkit link stops working at the same time.
The two boxes are separate
Newsletter. If you tick it, you get one email per new article. You stay on the list until you unsubscribe, with the link in any of them or by replying.
Services from Hallengren’s. If you tick it, I may write to you about workshops or commissioned work. Not often, and never on someone else’s behalf. You can withdraw at any time.
Neither box is needed for the toolkit. You can have none, one or both. Asking for the toolkit again never removes a box you ticked before; only you can do that, with the links below.
Changing your mind
If you ticked neither box, I may write to you once, personally, to thank you and ask whether you’d like the newsletter. That email has links that set your choice in one click: just the newsletter, just services, or both. If you don’t answer, nothing changes and your address is deleted after three months as above.
Every email from me also has a link to unsubscribe from everything, and one that deletes your address straight away.
Who sees it, and where it lives
Me. Nobody else, and it is never sold or shared.
The site, the list and my mail server run on a dedicated virtual server that I rent from Amazon Web Services (Lightsail), in their Paris region. The data is stored in the EU. Amazon is an American company, though, so it is processed by a US provider under its EU data protection terms. Outgoing email is handed from my mail server to Amazon’s sending service (SES) in the same Paris region, so it doesn’t leave the EU either.
If you subscribe to the newsletter, your address is added to the same newsletter list as the sign-up under the articles, once you have confirmed it by opening the link. If you’re already on that list, nothing is duplicated.
Your rights
You can ask to see what I hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted now rather than in three months. Every email from me has a link that deletes your address directly. Or write to henrik@hallengrens.com.
The toolkit itself
The toolkit is for your own work and your team’s. Copy and adapt the templates as you like. If you publish something built on it, a mention of Hallengren’s is appreciated.
